Rules

Indoor Soccer

 



Facilities
The League rents facilities in order to provide our leagues.  Facilities are rented from the City as well as private facilities.  Please respect the facilities so we can continue using them.  If we lose our permits for any reason then the season will be cancelled.
  • No Outdoor Shoes in any gym facility
  • No Marking running shoes
  • Leave the gym the way you found it.  Throw away your garbage.
  • Players should arrive at the gym no more than 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time

If you do not adhere to the above rules then you will be asked to leave the gym.
 
Equipment
  • The league will provide nets and balls.
  • Players will be responsible to bring a dark and light coloured shirt
  • No Cleats
  • Players must wear appropriate court shoes. No black soled or marking shoes are allowed 
  • Shin guards are optional
 
Rosters
  • 4 players plus 1 goalie on the floor at one time.
  • At least two players on the floor must be female at all times (Female goalies do not count towards the 2 on the floor). 
  • There is no minimum requirement for males.
  • The League recommends teams of 8-10 players to avoid defaults.  Teams are also encouraged to have subs and alternates.
  • Minimum 3 players plus goalie present in order to play (must have two females at all times)
  • Teams are allowed to add to their roster at any point. Player info for every additional member must be sent to the league prior to them being allowed to play
Spectators
  • Only people 18 years of age and older will be allowed in the facilities.
  • We are dealing with fully grown adults running, throwing, kicking, shooting, at high speed and the risk of injury to a minor is too high to allow them in the gyms.
 
Jerseys
  • The Rec League does not provide jerseys. Teams are responsible to bring both a light and dark coloured shirt to each game. Captains can decide prior to the game which team will wear which color.
  • If any player does not have a shirt color that matches their team, the opposing captain can request that they don't play. - PLEASE MAKE SURE EVERYONE BRINGS A LIGHT AND DARK COLORED SHIRT.
 
Defaults
  • A minimum of 3 players need to be present at the start of the game to avoid a default. A least 2 players must be female. 
  • If the minimum requirement is not met, the team that is short players will lose the game by default 10-0.
  • If a team defaults one game then they will be required to pay a default fee by e transfer before their next game. If this is not paid then all games will be updated as a default loss and the team will not be scheduled anymore games.
  • If a team misses two games then another default fee will need to be paid in order to have any future games scheduled. A meeting with the league will occur to determine if this league is the right fit for your team. If a second default fee is not paid then the players on the roster will not be allowed to play in any future sports.
  • If a team misses more than two games then this is not the right league for your team. You need a drop in league and the players on the roster will not be allowed to play in any future sports.
  • If both captains agree, the minimum requirement rule can be waived and the game will count towards the standings. This must be decided upon before the start of the game and teams cannot change their minds once the game has started.
 
Officiating
  • All games are self officiated.
  • Players are expected to call their own penalties. If the referee determines that players are not they will be forced to eject players from the game 
  • The league will provide a league coordinator to monitor the game but they are not responsible to call penalties.  Teams and players are responsible to call their own penalties
  • Teams can not call the other team’s penalties as it is not their responsibility. If teams do not call their own penalties it will reflect the game report submitted by their opponents and will affect future status in the league 
  • Any intentional penalties (i.e. tripping, roughing, etc) will result in the player being asked to sit out the rest of the game. If a player is asked to sit out twice in a season they are done for the year. 
  • Any infraction where the intent is to hurt another player will result in ejection from the league.
  • If a player takes more than 3 penalties in a game they will be out for the rest of the night.
 
Objectionable Behaviour
Reckless, aggressive, threatening or unsportsmanlike behaviour will result in being ejected from the game. If this behaviour is repeated, the player may face ejection from the league. If this is a team wide issue, the entire team may be ejected from the league.

If a team or individual is found guilty of objectionable behaviour; The League Coordinator has the right to
             -  Warn a player
             -  Ask a player to sit out
             -  Ask a player to leave the gym
             -  Recommend to the league that a player be suspended
 
Judgment calls made by the League coordinators are final and protests will not be considered. Players or teams that argue with the coordinator will be subject to suspension or ejection from the league
 
This means
  - No arguing
  - No swearing towards the Rep or other Team.
  - No complaining
 
-The League coordinators are not trained referees and are there to keep the game running and ensure games start and end on time. Please respect them.
-They have the right to make any player sit out or leave the gym. If asked to do either, you must do so immediately

When kicking the ball, know your opponent. There is no reason to kick the ball as hard as you can when a player is directly in front of you. Kicking the ball excessively hard is considered reckless and aggressive playing and will result in a foul or being asked to sit out.
 
Pre Game
  • To start the game, the two captains will decide which team defends which end and which team gets the first kick off. Teams switch ends at the half, and the other team gets the kick off. Captains can decide kick off by a coin toss, rock/paper/scissors etc….
  • Games consist of 2 – 25 minute straight time halves. There will be a five-minute warm up and a 5-minute half time.
  • Games must start on time and the clock will begin at the scheduled start time. A late start will result in a short game.
  • If a team is not ready on time a default score of 10-0 will be awarded to the other team.
  • During the regular season a tie will remain a tie.
 
Kick Off
  • During a kick off all players must be at least 10 feet away. The kicker on the kick off, cannot touch the ball again until another player touches the ball
  • Goals cannot be scored on a kick off
  • The game is restarted after each goal in the same manner
 
Playing Area
  • Games will be played across the entire gym. The only out of bounds will be any stairwell, stage, seating area, bleachers, basketball net and posts and the roof etc…
  • Team Captains and the Rec League Rep should agree on all out of bounds prior to the start of the game to ensure everyone is playing by the same rule.
  • The team who last touches the ball prior to it going out of bounds will lose possession. The opposing team will get an indirect free kick, at the nearest point of where the ball went out of bounds.
  • Team Captains and the Rec League Rep should agree on the crease area and penalty kick area at the start of the game to ensure everyone is playing by the same rules.
 
Free Kicks and Offside
  •         You cannot score on an indirect free kick
  •         During an indirect free kick the opposing team must stand at least five feet away.
  •         There are no offsides.
Indirect free kicks will be awarded to a team when their opponent takes a foul.
 
Handball        
  • Players are not allowed to touch the ball with any part of their hand or arm, from the shoulder to the fingers.
  • Handballs will result in a change of possession that starts with an indirect free kick.
  • If a handball occurs when a player is protecting their body or face then play will continue.
  • Handball in the crease (Defence) - If the defensive team touches the ball with their hand (other than the goalie) in the crease it will result in a 2 minute penalty to the player and a change of possession started with an indirect penalty kick.
  • Handball in the crease (Offense) - If the offensive team touches the ball with their hand in the crease, it is the goalies ball. 

Goalies
  • Players may pass the ball back to the goalie at any time during the game. The goalie may pick up the ball if he/she is in the goalie crease.
  • The Goalie can throw the ball, but it must land on his/her side of the gym first.
  • Goalies may pass the center line at any time during the game, but the goalie may only use his or her hands when in the crease
  • Goalies cannot score.
 
Substitutions
  • Substitutions can be made at any time, as long as the player leaving the floor does not interfere with play once the new player is on the floor.
  • Goalie substitutions can only be made at a stoppage in play.
 
Fouls

The following fouls, if unintentional, will all result in a 2 minute penalty and an indirect kick:
  • Tripping or attempting to trip
  • Pushing or attempting to push
  • Kicking or attempting to kick another player
  • Boarding (driving another player into the wall)
  • Holding
  • Leaving the ground to head the ball
  • Kicking above the waist
  • Standing in the crease. Neither the offensive or defensive players are allowed to stand in the crease. They may run through the crease, but cannot stop and stand in the crease
  •  Any type of reckless or aggressive playing
When chasing a ball into a corner, the second person must back off five feet to give the lead person enough room to keep the ball moving.
 
  • If any of the above fouls are committed intentionally, the player committing the infraction will be asked to sit out for the night and any future play in the league will be decided by the league.  Any deliberate intention to cause harm to another player will not be tolerated.
  • Any player that fouls twice will be asked by the League coordinator to sit out for five minutes. If the player fouls a third time then they will be asked to leave the gym and any future play in the league will be decided by the league.


Playoffs
  • All teams will get two playoff games regardless of where they finish in the standings or the score of their first playoff game
  • Playoff games that end in a tie will then have a shootout to determine the winner.  

Shootout – Three shooters from each team. One must be a female. Teams will rotate shooters, and the team with the most goals wins.
If the game is still tied after the first three shooters then it will go to a sudden death format. First team to miss loses. For example if team A shoots first and scores then team B must score or they lose. If team A misses and team B scores, team B wins.  
 
 Alcohol Consumption
  • The league and the facilities do not allow any open alcohol at any public venue.
  • Any player or team found to be under the influence of alcohol, or other controlled substance, will be automatically ejected from the league wihtout refund. 
 
Rescheduling
  • Gym time is very limited. The League will not reschedule games for any reason.
  • Should you cancel or not show up for your game you will lose by default.

Sportsmanship

This is a rec league and we expect all players and teams to have a fun first attitude. To help enforce this style of play we ask all teams to report the sportsmanship rating of the opposing team after every game.
 
2 – Good, fun spirited team, respected their opposition and made the game enjoyable. Played within the rules and made their own calls. Clear understanding of rules.
1 – Was not unsportsmanlike, but didn’t go out of their way to make the game enjoyable. Missed some obvious calls and was not clear on all the rules
0 – Was not a fun team to play. They made the game less enjoyable and did not respect the opposition. Did not know the rules. Did not follow the rules. Rude or aggressive behaviour.

If a team gets two 0 ratings in one season the league will decide whether the team is fit for this league and may remove them from the schedule.

Any complaints about the opposing team should brought to the attention of the League Rep and be done in a respectful and polite way at the end of the game.

Throwing the ball excessively hard or high will result in poor sportsmanship.

Any issues throughout the game should be brought to the attention of your captain and the two captains and League Coordinator (LC) can discuss a solution. No one other then the Captain should discuss these issues with the opposition.

Scores
  • Captains are responsible for reporting scores and sportsmanship rating to the league coordinator following games.
  • Teams should confirm scores after each point.
  • If scores are not reported by the end of the regular season they will not count towards the standings

Refunds
Registration fees are fully refundable, minus a $20 processing fee, up to 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the season. After this, the league assumes you have committed and all fees are non-refundable. We require this time frame in order to create teams and to complete scheduling.
